Out of the Box, Virtualbox!
Anyone who uses their computer for more than an occasional email check (hi Mom! ) may come to a point where they want to test some software, or maybe you are curious what those geeks are talking about when they get excited over the latest linux distro. If you want a quick and easy test box, with various configuration options, then virtualbox is the way to go.
From the VirtualBox website: “VirtualBox is a general-purpose full virtualizer for x86 hardware. Targeted at server, desktop and embedded use, it is now the only professional-quality virtualization solution that is also Open Source Software.” That translates to, VirtualBox allows you to create “virtual” computers within your existing computers, and the best part is that was released as open source under the GNU license, which means, it’s completely free to use. Not to mention, it is pushed out by the trusted good people at Sun Microsystems, who produce other huge industry known java products and other known projects such as open office.
With VirtualBox, the linux geek can run windows on his desktop or the windows geek can run linux on his desktop, complete cross platform intergration. With other features like optional dynamically sized hard drives, 3D support, shared files between the guest and host, RDP protocol, virtual USB support, seemless mode operation and much more.
Browse the downloads page to find your specific operating system.
Run the installer, set up the settings you wish to apply, and go virtual!
